Motorsport News June
For round two of the championship we raced at Silverstone on the historic Grand Prix circuit layout. After Snetterton we made some revisions to the engine and the rolling road results suggested we should be on the pace. The Sports 2000 community were looking forward to this race where we were supporting the MG Live weekend and racing on such a great circuit.I qualified 3rd in the Pinto Historic class and had to battle hard in the early stages of the race with a new competitor from Europe, Olivier Kirten. The weather was brilliant, however my engine did not like the weather and began to overheat as the race wore on. None the less I managed to finish second in class and set a new lap record for Pinto Historics!Three weeks later, we raced at Oulton Park, another historic British circuit and the weekend was a "double header" which would take us to the half way point in the Pinto Historic Sprint championship. I qualified third for race 1, and finished 2nd after a very close race with the ever competitive Mike Fry from class B.For the second race, I therefore started 2nd, and finished a relieved 1st in class and was just pipped for fastest lap by Colin Feyeraband who was only 0.092 seconds faster. I say relieved because the engine was still running hot which we will need to fix. At this half way point, I now have a narrow lead in the championship ahead of Colin.
