Preparing for motor racing season this year
The start of a new motor racing season always brings a buzz of excitement, anticipation, and possibility. For me it’s a time to reset, refocus, and prepare for the challenges and triumphs that lie ahead. Whether you’re an experienced driver or embarking on your first season, how you approach these weeks pre-season can make all the difference.
First and foremost, preparation begins with you. Fitness is often underestimated in motorsport, but endurance, focus, and reaction times are critical behind the wheel. Commit to a training regimen that builds core strength, stamina, and mental resilience. Remember, races are won as much in the mind as on the track—so incorporate mindfulness or visualisation techniques to sharpen your edge.
Next, it’s time to prepare the race car. I believe that your race car is an extension of yourself, and its performance depends on meticulous attention to detail. I always conduct a thorough pre-season check: suspension, brakes, tyres, and engine components are all inspected and tuned for optimum performance. Beyond mechanical checks, I also consider aerodynamics and weight distribution—small adjustments can deliver big results on race day.
Finally, I take a step back and envision what’s possible. What are my goals for the season? Is it about shaving milliseconds off lap times, driving at my favourite circuit, or standing on the podium? Then I break these aspirations into achievable milestones and ensure every race weekend is a step closer to my ultimate vision, whilst also enjoying the camaraderie and fun in the paddock.
The beauty of motor racing lies in its unpredictability, its challenges, and its rewards. By preparing yourself and your car and fostering a mindset of possibility, you’ll enter the season ready to face whatever the track throws your way.
